Small changes can have a big impact

What would happen if every student in the country reduced their waste by as much as we have at Hartwick?

2,256,250 lbs

That’s how much food would be saved across the US if every student reduced their waste as much as Hartwick students did last week!

Hey, it’s Albi!

For many of us, last week might have been the first time we’ve ever thought about how much food we’re wasting. So, let’s see how much difference being conscious of food waste can have…

Now, 0.3 oz might not sound like much of a difference. But what would happen if every college student in the country reduced their waste by this much?

If the 19 million students in the US wasted 0.3 oz less food, that would save an incredible 2.26 million lbs in a single week. That’s enough to feed the entire population of Albany three meals a day for a week!

80 lbs of waste saved in a single week is amazing! You see how easy it is to have a positive impact when it comes to food waste?!

But let’s not stop there…imagine the difference we can make if we keep wasting even a little less each day.

Don’t forget to keep checking back to the website Albi - Eat Smart where we’ll be uploading new results each week and slicing and dicing the data both at Hartwick and across the US!

Keep up the amazing work and remember to always eat smart!

Best,

Matt & Harry
